AMASS :: Dragon Lord and Ruler of Daemyns of the Plane of Pestilence. A master of magicks, and first known "demon" in Existence.

Despite his main appearance (takes many forms), Amass is by no means your typical demon as fabled by the mortals of the Tera-Realm (Earth). He is also not a malevolent being. His past life was spent as a powerful and mighty dragon known as Xykovyryxatynyl spawned in an alternate universe or plane of existence and lived to be a Great Wyrm (millenia old dragon).

At the end of his dragon life, Xykovyryxatynyl passed to an afterlife, or more accurately, ascended to another higher plane of existence as magickal energy. In this soul-like form Xyko traveled the Multiverse seeking out arcane knowledge looking to gain wisdom on the inner workings and wonders of the All, meeting many strange beings in this aeon long quest.

Over the eons Xyko ran into a wise entity of limitless abilities named Dyablo (no, not related to "Diablo"), who taught him the esoteric knowledge he'd been seeking and granted Xyko a peek behind the cosmic veil of the "Prime Quantum Computation."

_______________

There is so much more back story and detail before, after, and in between, as this is ridiculously short... but it's far to vast in depth to go into.
________________

Basically at some point Xyko reached God Consciousness through Dyablo and was granted the ability to take any corporeal form at will and took the form and title of Amass, and still able to shift to his dragon form, among other new ones.

Not to mention countless other new powers, and probably his biggest feat of all was to carve out his own cosmic plane which he now currently resides.

Perhaps some day I'll right an extended story. Amass is a character I dreamed up when I was little, and Dyablo is my best friend's character, which we deem ourselves the Avatars of. ;)

Edit: Slight update. Did a little more shading/smudging to try and improve on things.

The contrast certainly is better than it was... although you and I both need to figure out how to draw realistic fire, LOL -- I don't know how to do it either! I still am having some issues with his face/head -- it still seems awkward somehow. Maybe if I get the time I will try to do a rendition of the character to see if I can't figure out what exactly it is about that doesn't quite sit right with me...

It's mist, not fire. He's not fire related in any way. I think his head is... alright. I've seen body builders with muscles so large their heads seemed small. lol. The neck could be thicker, that's probably what looks odd. Feel free to do a rendition if you really want, would be interesting to see your execution of this character.

Also -- sorry about the fire/mist confusion... in that case, if it's mist I think you would see more of him through it -- I think that the mist would only completely cloud his body from view further down... I don't know... this is gray matter for me... not something I usually draw... but I think that you should be able to see him through the mist further down... IDK -- *shrugs*

Hm, true. I mean for the mist to be super thick though, supernatural even. :)

It's not the *size* of his head, because I know what your talking about... it has something to do with his facial structure in conjunction with the angle that he was drawn from... and hopefully I will get the time for this soon...

Ooo well first of all I LOVE how you sign your artwork, LOL. I can't seem to come up with anything cool -- the only thing that ever seems to fit is the way I sign my initials. Oh well --

But besides that, I think that you may be missing the key to blending as I was -- There are these awesome tools you can buy call tortillons -- they are basically rolled, pointed paper stumps. (I hear you can use cotton swabs/Q-tips, too, but they are less accurate.) You can buy them at Michael's and you can probably buy them in bulk on ebay.

Also, you lack some contrast... there are no definitive lights in this drawing, only muddied shades of gray. You should also invest in a kneaded rubber eraser, which is great for lifting highlights off the page. (But not good for erasing large areas... only for creating highlights.)

I think his horns would look better if there was more texture to them -- trying googling for an image of a sheep skull to get an idea of what it would/should look like. I actually really love the anatomy from the neck down -- it's really great but I think something about this three quarter view is a little awkward and his head looks a bit too small for his body.

I have mentioned this to friends of mine who also dabble in drawing (especially those who draw only anime): study realism and try drawing real people. I think that in order to draw fantasy creatures or anything for that matter, you need to have a firm grasp on *normal* human anatomy and what it should look like.

I have a friend who is AWESOME at drawing artwork like this... very dark stuff... lots of shrouded beings -- the types of monsters you would see in Warhammer books, LOL. He would be an even better person to consult than myself! He's not currently a use on deviantart... but I will see if I can't get him over here to look at this for you!
